AIDS and other communicable diseases, in addition to other endemic diseases such as malaria, guinea worm, and river-blindness, pose a major threat to overall economic development of SSA.

In addition, the incidence of AIDS is highest among blacks and other peoples of African descent in the New World. ADPED works with local, national and international institutions to confront these health challenges.
